EKKA is an annual agricultural and Royal Show held in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is one of the largest events on the state’s calendar which attracts around 400,000 visitors each year. Have you ever wondered how this spectacle came to be? In this article, let’s discover more about EKKA and other news you need to know.

EKKA and its interesting background

The event began in 1876 as a one-day event called the Brisbane Exhibition. Over the years, it has grown to become a nine-day extravaganza with agricultural exhibits, animal shows, rides, and attractions. Let’s not forget the countless food kiosks, drink stalls, and entertainment areas.

It is held at the RNA Showgrounds in Bowen Hills and covers an area of around 35 hectares. It can accommodate over 3,000 exhibitors and 500 animals. There are also more than 100 food and drink stalls, as well as a range of rides and attractions.

Such a gathering is run by the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland (RNA), a not-for-profit organisation that promotes the agriculture industry of the state. EKKA is held every August and runs for nine days. It is a public holiday in Brisbane, so many revelers can participate and immerse themselves in all the fun.

EKKA is a great day out for the whole family. There is plenty to see and do while showing support to local farmers and producers. If you’re looking for a fun-filled day out, make sure you add EKKA to your list!

EKKA’s postponement

Unfortunately, everything was put to a halt as the whole world stopped in 2020. As public gatherings were not permitted, EKKA in  2020 got canceled. Needless to say, the same is true for all the festivities around the world.

Because of the pandemic’s volatility, the same thing happened in 2021. This was when the Delta variant wreaked havoc, thus canceling out all events and celebrations further. Of course, EKKA was not spared.

EKKA is back with a vengeance!

The past two years were just temporary stops. Nothing can dampen the spirit of the people of Queensland. This is because the Queensland Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association (RNA) announces the much-anticipated EKKA returns in 2022!

After a hiatus two-year hiatus, the RNA is looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the showgrounds for another year of family fun, food, fashion, and entertainment. As always, there will be plenty of exciting events and attractions prepared. After getting canceled for two years, expect fun like no other from all that pent up anticipation.

This includes animal shows, cooking demonstrations, fashion parades, carnival rides, and much more. Locals and tourists alike should never miss this great funfair- one that only Queensland can offer.

So mark your calendars and start planning your trip to Brisbane for what promises to be a great event! EKKA 2022 will run from 6th to 14th August filled with exciting activities to take place on these days.
